The big autumn tidy up…. and some unexpected delights

The tomatoes have finally succumbed to blight.  Not all of them but the beef steak tomatoes have been particularly stricken so it’s……off with their heads!  We picked any remaining perfect fruits and Jeremy dug up the plants and blighted toms and gave them to the chickens.

Then into the  polytunnel to carry out the same triage with the indoor plants, carefully leaving a magnificent hot pepper that has grown amongst the tomatoes and also saving some vines that are nurturing late cucumbers.

Outside, near the strawberries, there is an unexpected gift…..some perfect white mushrooms.  I look forward to sautéing them in butter with a twist of pepper and some salt.  More to do first whilst the sun shines and the weather is kind.
