Although there are still plenty of berries in the hedgerows I picked the last blackberries of the season this afternoon.

I was told, many years ago, that the Devil spits on the blackberries after September 29th so I shouldn’t pick them after that date.  I never did and I never will. So tonight I will stew the last of the blackberries with the autumn raspberries and some cooking apples that I just collected from my neighbour.
