Jeremy chose these organic little tomatoes from the chase organics catalogue. They have grown and flowered beautifully and inside the violet flower is a small fruit which we thought was a tiny tomato

When I looked online for tomatillo recipes I discovered that they are not tomatoes at all but a type of physalis (like Cape gooseberries) and are the main ingredient of salsa. The flower is poisonous but the small marble sized fruit is cooked with chilli peppers and onions to make a hot sauce. Apparently they grow like weeds in Mexico….maybe in Bedford too.
Look out for The Gables Salsa Sauce!
