Jeremy spotted this little bird outside the barn as he left The Gables at 5.30 this morning. He asked me to remove it and put it into the hedge before a hungry crow found it and decided to pick it to pieces.

The price of sunflower kernels and peanuts, with which we fill the numerous bird feeders around the house, has shot up from 99p a bag to £1.30 a bag. We will soon be spending more on their food than our own. If you are coming to visit don’t being chocolates just bring birdseed.
I use Lidl; wild bird seed and peanuts 99p a kilo and fat balls 99p for six. But even at that price my birds are eating me out of house and home. I have to go out several times a day to refill the fat ball spring. The greater spotted woodpecker is now accompanied by a son who sports a bright red ‘hat’. They don’t like each other much; constantly fighting over the fat balls.
I am making a beeline for lidl and also poundland sell bird food and fat balls However the birds are the best entertainment…good value for money at least until the price goes up again
