New flower beds, a day of strimming and a baby chaffinch that might not survive

A joint effort between Jeremy, Chris and yours truly have produced two new flower beds at the back of the house.  Actually it was more my idea than my hard work but I dug what I could and then put down my spade and did what I do best, strimming the paths and weeds.  My sort of gardening is outdoor housework, tidying and cleaning up and removing unsightly thistles ( which I hate with a passion).

There are so many nestlings that have flown the nest. They are round and fluffy and some of them don’t seem to know how to fend for themselves or even that they should be wary of humans. As I leave the back door I am in constant danger of colliding with low flying chaffinches and blackbirds! This little one looked as though she might not make it.

But later this afternoon she seemed to have recovered and was flying (low) amongst the raised beds and pecking at the ground.
