Jeremy has built three raised beds surrounded by wooden beams, two filled with lettuces and radishes and one for the leeks.
And now, having read garden columnist Alys Fowler, he has built two more beds purely from earth. He will put tomatoes and courgettes into the new raised earthen mounds and, although I was sceptical, I must admit that they look rather attractive. Not everything has to be boxed off and enclosed after all. There is more than one way to make a bed!

Alys has some good tips. Picked my first lettuce leaves for salad at lunchtime.
