Stakes, broad beans, onions and another raised bed.

It is a busy time of year and everywhere plants are growing and trees blossoming.  Today we put eight foot stakes into the ground in rows alongside the fruit bushes.  We will tie wire to the stakes and train the plants up these supports.  Next year we can attach netting and form a fruit cage tall enough to walk through.  No point this year as we won’t eat the fruit from the new bushes so the birds may come and peck at the berries and enjoy them.

The broad beans and onions are doing well and the beans are covered in flowers which, we hope, will form plenty of pods from which we can pop small tender beans which can be eaten raw as well as larger, fatter beans for cooking.
