Monday morning…..wonderful news

Jeremy came in from his morning walk around the fields with fantastic news.  You may remember the duck house that he built hoping to entice some wild ducks to nest and take up residence on our pond. We had sighted a drake and duck a few weeks ago but they had seemingly found another home. Last week Craig brought in the remains of the hot cross buns that he and Karen had bought but hadn’t eaten.  He encouraged us to throw them on the pond in the hope that the ducks would return but we saw no actual sign except that the crumbs had all but disappeared.  But…this morning Jeremy came upon the duck swimming on the pond with six small brown ducklings!  She saw Jeremy and quietly and carefully shooed the ducklings into the nest in the far right hand bank of the pond whilst she made her away over the hedge out of danger.  Although Jeremy returned with his long lens camera he couldn’t get a photograph of the hidden ducklings.  As they get bigger ( and providing Mr Fox stays away) we hope to be able to photograph them.  Craig and Karen…more buns please!

  1. Had you used Grodzinski buns I feel sure that they would have been more sociable. Good news indeed. hoping that the foxes are veggies after all if they are in your habitat they should keep to the rules and regulations
