Today the sky is heavy with grey clouds. That’s fine because the sun cannot always shine.
But there is a problem with the fishpond. At the weekend Jeremy found that the water level was down so he connected a hose to the outside tap and filled it for several hours. This morning the level was down again. So, he thinks, the heavy duty pond lining must have been punctured when he was attaching the fountain. So now he will have to think about the best way to remedy the situation, whether we need to reline the pond or can patch it. When we ordered the roll of pond liner we did so through a garden centre in london, collected it there on the way up to the gables and when we unrolled it we found that it came from a wholesaler just along the road in neighbouring Wyboston!
As I type the rain has started to drop in sheets and so, looking on the sunny side, the fish should be safe whilst it continues to pour.

We should all have such problems. Am in Israel where they are praying for rain.
If only you could send some of your rain here.We need it badly!
Fish Ponds. Can you emty the Fish with the aid of a Fishing net into a big tub. We were tiold to try and use as much water from the pond before adding water from the hose.
One Winter our Pond was frozwen over and I carrie kettles of boiling water to defrost the ice as the fish require the oxygen. Later we heard that puttting table tennis balls before the water freezes and removing to allow the air flow is another option. Above all else never smash the ice as it gives the Fish head aches and yes we had baby fish yearly. We also imported frog spawn as the fish gobble them up with relish. Not the Yorkshire variety I hasten to add
