I came downstairs to make a cup of tea. In my absence, last week, Jeremy had moved one of our bird feeders so that it sits just outside one of the kitchen windows – the one where I stand and wash up at the double sink or prepare the garden vegetables.
i walked up to the sink to empty the teapot and caught my breath. Just outside the window I could see a great spotted woodpecker pecking away at the peanuts hanging from the feeder. I was too slow on “the ipad” but instead caught on camera some smaller birds.
How will I be able to do anything today other than stand at the kitchen window, waiting to see which birds will come and visit?

Shavua Tov! Life is short do what you enjoy doing and if that means standing and waiting for the birds to appear ….so do it
A year ago I was walking down one of the pretty little streets nearby and heard the pecking sounds.I looked up and saw a beautiful Woodpecker up in a tree nearby pecking away. Fascinating. Why do Woodpeckers chose to peck? Is there a nourishmen in the bark of a tree?

This weekend is supposed to be the RSPB’s Big Bird Watch. Their website was down yesterday when the weather wasn’t too bad and there were a few birds around. This morning I saw just one Blue Tit and one Sparrow so left it until later. It has been pouring with rain ever since and there have been no birds. I have to squeeze an hour in this pm before it gets dark. Usually I have a wide variety of birds as I am on the edge of Canford Heath (an SSSI) including, Gillian, the Greater Spotted Woodpecker. Strikingly handsome, aren’t they. I still use a 1963 edition of the Observer’s Book of Birds as well as Pequeño Manual de las Aves de Europa picked up in Spain. Only the Hoopoe is rarely seen here.
You mean Jeremy does NOT stand at the kitchen sink washing up and preparing the vegetables??
Sailing a bit close to the wind SBI. What do you deduce from the fact that Jeremy has no time to blog once, let alone twice, each day?
Personslly i am very concerned that he may be working too hard
