Winter lettuces, spinach mustard, black skinned turnips and baby carrots

Who would have thought that seeds sown in mid and late August would produce a harvest of winter vegetables that we pick in the afternoon and eat for dinner.  The black skinned turnips are delicious peeled and boiled

and mashed with butter, salt and pepper.  The mustard spinach has a strong flavour and good texture.
